R. Alan Harris is the founding partner of Harris + Harris LLP and acted as counsel to the firm until his retirement in 2005. He obtained his law degree from the University of Toronto, after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto Victoria College. He was called to the Bar in 1964 and has been practicing law serving clients in West Toronto (Etobicoke) for over 39 years. Al’s practice focuses primarily on corporate/commercial litigation. He has handled matters such as:
• public and private company shareholder disputes;
• bankruptcy proceedings;
• personal injury, wrongful dismissal and product liability actions;
• injunction cases, including one of the first Mareva Injunctions in Ontario;
• class actions; and
• securities and medical malpractice.
Al has appeared as counsel before the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He is a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, The Canadian Bar Association and The Ontario Bar Association.
